Establishing Routine:
By: Casey Eisenberg
This morning I was running late to
work and didn’t get a chance to pack myself a lunch. This was because last
night I decided it was okay to mess around and not get what I needed to get
done done. Thinking about this now I feel sick and stressed and I regret it. I
hate not being prepared and on time and ready to go. That is why there needs to
be a major change in how I go about doing things and making sure that things
are ready to go.
So the first thing that you need to
figure out is what needs to be done when, i.e. In the morning I need to have
breakfast and lunches made, and the bed made and everything cleaned up. This
all needs to be done by 6:15. 6:30 at the absolute latest. This means that I only have 45 minutes when I
get up at 5:30, leaving there to be absolutely no time for me to get ready for
work myself. So, the first thing that I need to do is get up earlier. I will
now be getting up at 5:00 a.m. so that I can have everything ready and get
myself ready to go all while not feeling pressured and stressed. Getting up 30
minutes later also means that I will need to be going to bed earlier. This
leads to me needing to have better time management in the evening. When I get
home from work I need to clean out trash from lunch boxes, wipe them down, and
put ice packs in the freezer. Then I need to either get started on dinner, or
clean up the kitchen depending on if it’s my night to cook or not. Then if we
go to Ty’s dad for dinner when we get done and get home I need to help with Ty’s
paperwork and then finish cleaning up the kitchen, dining, living, and
bedroom/bathroom. I will then sweep up the floors, vacuum the entry rug (it
tends to get unbelievably dirty every day) Then I will mop with the Swiffer and
make sure everything for dinner the next night (again depending on if I am
cooking or not.) and then I’m done. All of this needs to be done by 8:00 so
that I have 30 minutes in order to shower and get in bed. Of course one thing I
have to be ready for is for things to change a little every once in a while,
date night, laundry day, etc. All of those will be different schedules and
such.
The other time that I can get much
ahead on cleaning and cooking is on Sunday. This is our one day off and it means
that honestly, I am still working. I need to get laundry done, grocery shopping
done, and any prep work that needs done completed and deep clean the house.
This is about a 6-hour process. Sometimes longer if I am trying to catch up on
the seasonal cleaning or organizing project (there are going to be quite a few
of these projects coming up here pretty soon.) It’s also my day to get all of
the things we need for the week ready and to go ahead and get the vehicles
cleaned out and washed if they need it. This means I really need to be
productive with my time management and productivity. It means that there can be
no sitting around messing off or making excuses not to do stuff. But it also
means that at the end of the day we have a clean fresh house that is taken care
of and a home to come home to every day!
I hope that seeing how I will be
managing my time will help you to better manage your time! Any questions or
comments please leave them below!
